USAID JCP Pushes MENA ICT Forum to a New Level For this year’s MENA ICT Forum, USAID JCP went beyond being the primary sponsor and worked with the organizers to develop the agenda, bring in speakers for sessions, and developed a full schedule of parallel activities.

Clean Tech Partnerships Formalized Smart Campus at the King Hussein Business Park

During the Eco Cities Forum, USAID JCP signed a Letter of Understanding in the presence of the Minister of Environment, His Excellency, Taher El Shakhsheer. The Letter of Understanding between USAID JCP and the King Hussein Business Park has the goal of assisting KHBP management to transform the park into a solar-enabled smart campus that would attract and enable innovation, technology and enhance competitiveness and job creation in the Clean Tech and Information and Communication Technology sectors.

The County Government of Mombasa located in the coastal region of Kenya, has identified priority areas for reform that will enable them deliver improved services to the citizens of Mombasa. The county desires to improve health services, water supply and education among others, but also recognize that as a new government, they lack the necessary,.

It is for this reason that USAID’s Agile and Harmonized Assistance for Devolved Institutions (AHADI) trained the executive committee of the county on policy development. The executive committee is responsible.

County assembly members study and discuss the bills with the guidance of a technical expert supported by USAID

The Constitution of Kenya, 2010 paved way for a devolved system of government through the establishment of 47 county governments. A key arm of these governments is the County Assembly, which exercises the legislative authority of the county. At the national level, the Senate which is the upper house of the Parliament of Kenya was also introduced to represent the interests of Kenya’s 47 counties and their governments. Formulating relevant policies and legislation for the counties requires good interaction and mechanisms.

During the MENA ICT Forum, USAID JCP witnessed the signing of a Letter of Commitment between the Ministry of Environment, Greater Amman Municipality, All Cell consortium, and the King Hussein Business Park. This was a public private partnership facilitated by USAID JCP to bring solar charging stations for electric vehicles to Jordan. All Cell plans to start with nine charging stations in Amman in addition to the one inaugurated at KHBP during the Forum. Upon signing the LoC, the Mayor of Amman announced that GAM will be purchasing 50 electric vehicles as part of its support for this pilot.
